  • Glenn Steely will be celebrating his 90th birthday, Sept. 13, 2012.
Glenn was born on Sept. 13, 1922, to John and Ella Steely, in Lost Springs. He attended grade school at West Slope and graduated from Burdick High School in 1940.
On Oct. 3, 1948, Glenn married Florence Herpich of White City in Herington.
Glenn always had a love for airplanes and flying. After graduation from high school, Glenn trained in aircraft sheet metal and welding. He managed the local airport in Herington along with Milt and Verl Ohlman after moving to the city in 1946.
Glenn’s work experiences has allowed them to live in Phoenix, Rapid City, S.D.; and Oklahoma City. Upon moving to McPherson, Glenn owned and operated Steely Oil Company, Inc. from 1974 to 1983, where he retired.
After retirement, he and Florence enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with the Wichita Car Club. They have also enjoyed trips to Alaska, Finland and Russia. His love of antique cars led him to work with Smokey Billue in his antique car museum.
His birthday was celebrated with a dinner at the Airport Steakhouse in Hutchinson, attended by his wife, his nephew and wife, Wendell and Debbie Christner and great-nieces, Amy and Heidi, and their families.
