  • Dennis Lynn Frans, 61, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 10:45 p.m., while in the company of family members at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas. Dennis was born in McPherson, Kansas, on March 7, 1951, and a son of the late Lillian Marie (Hapgood) and Ray Cecil Frans. Dennis attended the McPherson grade schools and graduated from McPherson High School in 1969. He was a former member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in McPherson, Kansas. He worked as the head custodian at Soderstrom Elementary School in Lindsborg, Kansas, for the last 25 years. Dennis was a founder and original member of King Midas and the Muflers. He began playing both drums and guitar at an early age, however; influenced by the sound of early Memphis soul music and Jimmy Smith's organ, he found his calling in keyboards and studied with the famous keyboardist Mike Finnigan. Continuing as a current member of the King Midas Band as the keyboardist and a vocalist, he was still performing and touring with other groups throughout Kansas as well. It all started in 1965 and he has continuously been rocking the Midwest for 47 years. In 2006, King Midas and the Muflers were inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame, and hailed as Kansas' longest performing Rock and Roll Band. Dennis was a humble and caring man with an uncanny sense of humor. He was an avid gardener with a love and appreciation of nature. Hiking in the Rocky Mountains with his family and walking the fields and collecting arrowheads and artifacts were among his favorite pastimes. He was a gentle spirit who enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, cooking, and traveling with family. Dennis had a love and unparalleled connection with his children and supported them through their BMX, school and musical endeavors without hesitation. He loved all of his children and co-workers at the USD 400 School District, and looked forward to "his" cinnamon roll in the morning. Dennis L. Frans was united in marriage to Janet L. Goering on August 19, 1973, in McPherson, Kansas. Dennis is survived by his wife, Janet of McPherson, Kansas; two sons Joshua R. Frans, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Joseph T. Frans, of Austin, Texas; a sister, Cheri Wray, of McPherson, Kansas; a brother, Dale Frans, of Topeka, Kansas; as well as other relatives and a host of friends. His parents, Ray and Lillian Frans, and his daughter, Heather Frans, preceded Dennis in death. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 27, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas. The funeral service will be at the New Hope Evangelical Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2012. The final resting place will be in the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dennis Frans Memorial Fund or the Rebecca A. Morrison House in Salina, KS and may be sent in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid Street, McPherson, KS 67460.
