The McPherson Dog Park Association has set a date for a fall-themed fundraiser in October.
The event will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 27 at the north shelter in Wall Park. There will be various contests and prizes for dogs and owners, including a costume contest.
The event also will include games and a photo booth.
The group will have another fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 4 at Pizza Hut. Anyone who orders a dine-in or carry-out order from Pizza Hut on this night can ask for a coupon that will result in 15 percent of the proceeds going to the McPherson Dog Park Association. Traci Parrish, association leader, said participants must ask for and present the coupon at the register when paying in order for the funds to go to the Dog Park group.
The group was formed to raise funds for the eventual construction of a dog park in McPherson.
The group met Tuesday to work on details of upcoming fundraisers and update members on progress on the park.
Parrish said the group continues to work with the city to find an acceptable location for the park.
Plans for a park have been stopped in the past as a result of neighbors raising protests to a park.
The group needs about $25,000 in order to begin construction on a park, which will be added to a $25,000 donation the city is holding from an anonymous donor.
The association has raised about $2,000 during the last several months from such fundraisers as a garage sale and fundraising night at Quizno’s.
The association is planning additional fundraisers. Details on those events will be released later.
The association is accepting donations through the McPherson Community Foundation. Send donations to the McPherson Community Foundation at 206 S. Main St., McPherson, KS 67460. Put McPherson Dog Park Association in the memo line.
A donation entitles the donor to a membership card. Members will be updated regularly on the status of the dog park project.

The group’s next meeting will be at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 9 at the McPherson Public Library.
