  • Lisa Brewer and her children are seeing their new home grow before their eyes.
Brewer, children, Nicole and Ashton, and grandbaby, Aaliyah, will soon be the owners of the latest Habitat for Humanity House at 112 Empire in Galva.
It will be the 25th home built in the county since McPherson Area Habitat for Humanity built its first home in 1993 and the second in Galva.
The house has been framed, and volunteers are putting the sheeting on the roof.
The house is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. However, Nick Nickelson, Habitat volunteer, said rain has delayed progress on the house.
“We have had our challenges, but no more than any other house or building project,” he said.
As with all Habitat projects, the Brewer family is contributing volunteer hours on the structure. Lisa and her family must accumulate at least 200 sweat equity hours as a part of homeownership.
Volunteers are still needed. If you are interested in helping, contact Nickelson at Nick’s Home Center at 620-654-3650 in Galva for more information and scheduling.
