Central Christian College’s Josh Black honored his grandmother the best way he could.
Black, who learned early Saturday morning that his grandmother had passed away, scored two goals, including the game-winner 7:03 into overtime for a dramatic 2-1 victory over York College in CCC’s MCAC opener.
Gunnar Kelly assisted on the play. Earlier, Black had scored on a pass from Luis Barajas.
“The goals were an outpouring of emotion from him. A release of internal anguish, if you will,” CCC coach Aaron Hoxie said. “I am proud that Josh stayed for the match. He is loyal to his teammates, coaches and to the name on the front of the kit. Well done, son.”
It was the Tigers’ third straight win and they are now 6-3-1 on the year. They play Wednesday at Concordia University.
YORK WOMEN 2, CENTRAL 1 — Krystina Powell’s goal gave CCC a 1-0 lead, but York tallied just before the half to tie the game at 1-all. York achieved the game-winner with 18 minutes left in the game.
Central, now 1-9 with five losses by a single goal, hosts Bellevue on Saturday.
