A lightning storm last week caused damage to the McPherson County Courthouse and knocked the Motor Vehicle Department out of commission for two days.
County Administrator Rick Witte said crews were examining the northwest tower on the courthouse for damage following the lightning strike Sept. 25. He reported some limestone bricks, mortar and decorative molding on the tower had been broken, though no monetary damage assessment is yet available.
Additionally, an estimated $30,000 worth of electronics equipment was lost due to lightning.
The loss of the electronics forced the Motor Vehicles Department to shut down last Wednesday and Thursday, though they were operating again by Friday.
