Kansas wheat production for 2012 is estimated at 382.2 million bushels, down 1 percent from the August forecast but up 38 percent from 2011.
This is the largest production since 2003. Yield is estimated at 42 bushels per acre, down 1 bushel from the August forecast but 7 bushels above last year’s drought stricken crop. Acres
harvested for grain totaled 9.1 million, up 1 percent from the previous forecast and up 15 percent from 2011. A total of 9.5 million acres were planted to wheat in the fall of 2011, down 1 percent from the June acreage report but 8 percent above last year.
