A new plaza at Central Christian College is nearing completion, giving students a place to come together as a school.
President Hal Hoxie said the M.B. Miller Heritage Plaza is on schedule for an early November completion. A round-about and drop-off point has been poured and crews continue work on a seating area that will be near the Broadhurst Student Center, the Science Hall, the Briner Library and the Reimer Business Center.
“It is designed to be a gathering place in the center of campus,” Hoxie said. “Where students can meet together as a school, watch a concert and just hang out.”
Hoxie added, while they hope to be done in November, the dedication for the plaza is still a ways into the future.
“We will have our dedication on May 11, 2013, in conjunction with the 100th year celebration of the May Day festivities,” Hoxie said.
The project is planned to cost about $600,000 and will include a commemorative clock tower, a performance stage and a canopy.
South Maple starting at Avenue D will remain closed to traffic through the completion of the plaza.
