  • Liggett Emerson "Mike" Shannon, 89, of Little River, Kansas, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Monday, October 8, peacefully, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita, Sedgwick County.
    Liggett was born in Greeley, Colorado, on December 1, 1922, a son of Reyes (Oyous) and William Shannon.
    Mike graduated from High School in Arizona
    Mike was a member of Little River First United Methodist Church Little River, Kansas.
    Mike honorably served in the U.S. Navy as a Motormac during W.W. II.
    Through the years Mike worked as a salesman for Singer Company and later owned and operated a Singer Sewing Machine store in Bozeman, Montana. He continued buying and fixing old sewing machines after his retirement.
    Mike was a member of the U.S. Sub Vets of W.W.II, American Legion Post in Little River, Kansas, past member of the Moose Lodge in Montana and Oregon.
    Liggett E. "Mike" Shannon was united in marriage to Janice J. Jordan-Gossman on May 4, 1953 at Albany, Oregon.
    Mike is survived by his wife Janice Shannon, of Little River, Kansas; his children Dan Shannon and his wife Candy, of Geneseo, Kansas, Don Gossman and his wife Navelle, of Raymore, Missouri and JaDala Munson, of Billings, Montana; his eight grandchildren, Dan Gossman and his wife Diana, of Belton, Missouri, Kristin Long and her husband Ryan, of Kansas City, Missouri, Dale Munson and his wife Deanne, of Billings, Montana, Matthew Munson, of Billings, Montana, Maryanne Munson, of Billings, Montana, JaDala Hilliard and her husband Jason, of Billings, Montana, Libby Shannon, of Manhattan, Kansas, and Chelsea Shannon, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; four great-grandchildren and three-great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
    Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; sister; granddaughter Rigel Gossman;
    Memorial service will be held at Little River First United Methodist Church, Little River, Kansas, at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 12, with Reverend Josh Johnson and Reverend Grant Davis officiating.
    Interment will be private at convenience of the Family at the Bean Cemetery Little River, Kansas.
