McPherson High's cross country team turns in good times.
EL DORADO — McPherson High’s cross country team turned in some of its best times of the year during Saturday’s high-powered El Dorado Invitational, which drew a strong field.
“We had a fantastic day today with almost every runner posting a PR or a season-best time,” MHS coach Gentry Nixon said. “We’ve worked really hard this season and I was so excited to see it finally start to pay off for the kids. This was our last meet before league, so the runners are starting to hit their stride at just the right time.”
The girls took 15th, led by Michelle Carrillo (61st in 16:54.78). Other places and times were Taylor Scheidegger (79th in 17:23.84), Olivia Hansen (84th in 17:41.56), Brooke Gaeddert (98th in 18:29.28), Colleen O’Connor (99th in 18:32), McKenzie Benson (100th in 18:35.91) and Kylie Shoulders (105th in 19:18.94).
The boys were 19th, led by Corey Long (60th in 17:29.72).
Other marks were Ryen Trost (57th in 17:38.75), Wyatt Porter (105th in 18:28.09), Spencer Steinert (117th in 19:12.15), Kaden Kretzer (121st in 19:25.59), C.J. Steiner (125th in 20:11.71) and Ethan Fowler (126th in 20:22.62).
In the JV boys race, Steven Huerta led MHS (38th in 18:46.72), followed by Dalyn Chapman (57th in 19:32.41), Garrett Cline (58th in 19:34.57), Tate Johnson (62nd in 19:37.28), Zane Richter (71st in 19:59.5), Cole Kretzer (86th in 21:25.94) and Kurt Pascual (90th in 23:15.25).
Katie Wurm (93rd in 20:36.22) led the JV girls, followed by Abby Hughes (107th in 21:23.38), Hannah Willems (115th in 21:59.88) and Hannah Stecklein (127th in 24:05.88).
The league meet is Thursday in El Dorado.
