Moundridge's volleyball team takes at Circle.
TOWANDA — Moundridge’s volleyball team had perhaps its best day of the year Saturday, finishing second to Andale in the Circle Invitational.
The Wildcats were 5-1 on the day. They put up a good fight against Andale, a traditional 4A power, as the Indians needed overtime to win the first set 27-25 before completing the victory in the second set, 25-19.
Moundridge had won earlier matches against Conway Springs (25-19, 25-15), Wichita Defenders (25-14, 25-10), Medicine Lodge (25-15, 25-15), Douglass (25-19, 25-19) and Wichita Independent (25-14, 25-17).
“The team finished well today,” said MHS coach Kelsi Chisholm, whose Wildcats are now 23-9. “We played strong teams in bracket play. I was proud of our attack and defense against Douglass. All players contributed to our success.”
MacKenzie Suderman and Brooke Holloway, both of whom were on the All-Tournament Team, had 50 kills apiece, while Michelle Schrag and Bri Anderson added 23 and 16, respectively. Suderman also had nine aces, while Schrag and Holloway six and five, respectively.
MHS will try to take this momentum into Saturday’s league meet at Sedgwick.
