WICHITA — McPherson College’s men’s basketball team, coming off a KCAC championship and NAIA Final Four appearance, is picked behind Saint Mary by the coaches and media, as poll voting was conducted during Tuesday’s KCAC Media Day.
The Bulldogs, who also won the KCAC Postseason Tournament last year, finished 33-4. While they have a good group of returnees, they must replace the McPherson High triumvirate of Aaron Frazier, Jordan Crawford and Chris Crawford.
Saint Mary received nine of 10 first-place coaches votes, with Ottawa receiving the other. The Spires had 90 points, with Mac second with 74, one more than Ottawa.
Bethany was picked eighth by the coaches.
In the media poll, Saint Mary received seven of nine first-place votes, with Mac garnering the other two, and the Spires had the edge in points, 88-78. Bethany was seventh.
On the women’s side, Southwestern was the favorite in both polls. Six of 10 coaches went with the Moundbuilders, while Friends received three top votes and Kansas Wesleyan had the other.
Mac was picked seventh by the coaches and Bethany was ninth.
In the media poll, Southwestern earned three first-place votes and 90 points, while Sterling drew the nod of four coaches but totaled only 88 points. Friends (2) and Tabor (1) received the other votes.
McPherson and Bethany were picked eighth and ninth, respectively, by the media.
