  • McPherson's area volleyball teams were in action Tuesday.

  • McPherson’s area volleyball teams are winding down their seasons, as they eye the upcoming postseason play.
    VIKINGS WIN TWO — Smoky Valley continued its recent hot streak by winning two home matches Tuesday.
    The Vikings defeated Haven (25-22, 25-22) and Lyons (25-19, 25-16).
    TEUTONS, REDSKINS AT GOESSEL — The Teutons played at Goessel, with the win coming against Little River (25-17, 25-21).
    The Teutons lost to Ellinwood in three (21-25, 25-21, 9-25) and Goessel (19-25, 11-25).
    Also at Goessel, Little River went 0-3. In addition to the loss to Inman, it was defeated by Ellinwood (12-25, 6-25) and Goessel (15-25, 14-25).
    CANTON-GALVA GOES 0-2 — The Eagles wrapped up regular-season play with losses to Beloit and Ell-Saline.
    C-G lost to Beloit (19-25, 17-25) and Ell-Saline (18-25, 17-25).
    While the Eagles didn’t play well against Beloit, according to coach Jenny Loyd, she was happy with the effort against Ell-Saline.
    “We turned it up a notch against Ell-Saline and competed point for point against the Cardinals, one of the top teams in the HOA,” Loyd said. “Our girls played amazing volleyball.  I was very pleased with our performance tonight.”
    Jennifer Likes and Erika Smith notched nine kills apiece while Cassie Enns had eight stuff blocks. Betsy Shobe and Mikayla Baldwin sparkled on the back row.
    ELYRIA PLAYED MONDAY — On Monday, Elyria Christian School lost a pair of matches at Hoisington.
    The Eagles lost to Hoisington and Russell, but scores were not available.
    ECS is playing Saturday in the league tourney to Peabody, then will host a Class 1A sub-state on Oct. 20.
