  • Senior Night was fun night for McPherson High’s soccer team here Thursday.
The Bullpups exploded for 10 goals and ended their game with Valley Center with 37 seconds left in a 10-0 mercy-rule obliteration.
“We play so well when we’re relaxed,” said MHS coach Chris Adrian, as his third-ranked team improved to 13-1 with one week left in the season. “That’s when we really get to move the ball around. Our outside backs are getting forward and having fun. Every time Al (Glidden) or Connor (Schafer) or Peter (Horton) made a run, everyone was cheering them on. You could feel them having fun.”
During the onslaught, Nick Torres — one of MHS’ eight seniors honored prior to the game — scored five times and broke Aaron Frazier’s single-season scoring record with his 32nd goal with 16 minutes left in the game.
MHS scored early and often to lead 5-0 at half, converting half of its 10 shots on goal. Torres scored two goals, while Dylan Blosser, Ryan Horton and Dylan Babcock also rang the bell.
Torres came up with two assists, while Horton and Blosser added one each.
Torres scored the next three MHS goals, two of them unassisted and the other on a pass by his brother Xzavier.
Xzavier Torres and Babcock scored to complete the rout with Ryan Horton assisting on both, giving him three on the night.
The MHS JVs, after being played to a 0-0 first-half standstill, erupted for three second-half goals for a 3-0 victory. Logan Schrag scored two of the goals and Kerrick Van Asselt had the other. Allan Arriola, Ethan VanDorn and Kaden Warren were credited with assists.
MHS plays the first of two road games Tuesday at Circle before wrapping up on Thursday against Hutchinson, a game that certainly should provide some fireworks.
