Wayne D. Embers, the son of Nathan Rufus and Victorilla Oliva (VanNess) Embers, was born Jan. 8, 1922, at his parents’ farm southeast McPherson.
He was the youngest of five children. He grew up working on the farm along with his siblings; Glen, Ray, Edna and Mabel. Wayne was baptized and later became a member of the Galva Methodist Church. He attended the Centennial Country School and Galva High School. His wise counsel and sense of humor will be missed.
Wayne, age 90, of Atkins, Ark., passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents Nathan and Victorilla Embers, his daughter Gail; a grandson Nathan Clevenger; his brothers Glen and Ray; and his sister Mable Severson.
Surviving family members include his devoted wife of 65 years, Rose Embers of Atkins, Ark.; his children Larry Embers and his wife Bonnie of McPherson; Danny Embers and his wife Angie of Comanche, Iowa; Vicky Heaton and her husband Stan of Atkins, Ark.; Carol Clevenger and her husband Bill of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Stephen Embers of Pratt; Galen Embers and his wife Jamie of McPherson; Sharon Bain and her husband Jerry of Rogers, Ark.; and Randy Embers and his wife Virginia of Bakersfield, Calif.; 28 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; many nieces and nephews and his sister Edna Bruce of McPherson.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, with Pastor Dan Cate officiating. Military honors will be presented by members of the America Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715.
