McPherson College’s cross country women, led by Savana Cross, took third place Saturday in the Bulldogs’ Lakeside Shootout contested on a winding, scenic course at Wall Park.
Cross ran 21:36.8 in the 5K to take ninth. Mac scored 45 points to finish behind Hutchinson Community College (35) and Sterling (40).
Mac, which was missing standout Aspen Frey, also featured Heidi Lyne (12th in 22:09), Addie Johnson (13th in 22:16.4), Miranda Clark (22nd in 24:10.1) and Lizette Guzman (24th in 25:13).
Former Mac standout Ashley Huizar ran unattached and took sixth in 20:45.9. Kayla Deighan, who also ran unattached, was first in 19:35.1, while Wichita State’s Mackenzie Maki was second in 19:44. Bay Baker of Sterling was third in 19:55, as she was the top KCAC runner.
Four Central Christian College runners finished, as Taylor Arnold was 25th in 25:33.1, Elyse Merritt was 26th in 26:27.2 and Amanda Berggren was 29th in 37:58.5. Becca Way, of CCC, ran unattached and was 18th (23:36.9).
Bethany did not have a full team, but received a 10th from Kylee Martinez (21:51.9).
On the men’s side, Wichita State — led by medalist Kevin Buseinei (26:44.24 in the 8K) won the title with 35 points to finish well ahead of Hutchinson (66). McPherson College was fifth with 105 points.
Kwan Leung led Mac by taking 14th in 29:02.24. Other Bulldog runners were Caleb Porter (15th in 29:09.83), Preston Mossman (16th in 29:17.12), Derek Gaudet (32nd in 30:42.67) and Brandon Sherier (37th in 31:31.32).
Former McPherson High standout Nikolous Rempe competed for Fort Hays, taking 33rd in 31:01.64, as he ran against former Bullpup teammates Porter and Mossman.
Bethany was fourth. James Farris led BC, taking seventh in 28:10.20.
