The McPherson Sentinel announced today the hiring of Chris Swick as sports editor for the paper.
Swick replaces Steve Sell, who is leaving The Sentinel after 33 years of service. Sell resigned to pursue other interests.
“We are sad to see Steve go. We wish him well,” said Cristina Janney, Sentinel managing editor. “The Sentinel will continue to be committed to local sports. No one can replace Steve, but Chris has a passion for sports and a commitment to the community.”
Swick is a 1998 graduate of McPherson High School and attended Hutchinson Junior Community College and Kansas State University, where he majored in journalism and mass communications. Swick comes into the position with a familiarity both of the area and the history of McPherson County’s sports programs.
“I’m thrilled to be taking on this position,” Swick said. “It will be difficult to fill the shoes left behind by Steve (Sell), but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Swick joined The Sentinel in July as a news reporter, coming back to McPherson after spending a nearly decade in Manhattan, both attending college and working for Manhattan Broadcasting, Inc., where he helped cover Kansas State University and Manhattan High School athletics.
Sell’s last day at The Sentinel will be Monda
