TOWANDA — McPherson High’s soccer team accomplished a rare feat Tuesday night.
By routing Circle 8-0, the Bullpups completed AVCTL play undefeated and unscored on.
“This is a big accomplishment and just shows how much a good defense helps,” said MHS coach Chris Adrian, whose third-ranked team goes to Hutchinson Thursday to wrap up the regular season. “Our offense and defense both work hand in hand. The defense knows we are most likely going to put goals in on the other end and the offense knows the defense is going to hold teams. It really takes a lot of pressure off the team.”
Ryan Horton went wild for the Bullpups by scoring three goals and coming up with two assists for an all-around night.
Nick Torres added to his school record with two more goals, giving him 34 on the year. He also had two assists.
Xzavier Torres also scored two goals, while Peter Horton added the other MHS goal and Dylan Blosser notched an assist.
MHS fired off 24 shots and Bullpup goalie Dylan Stos basically had the night off, as he did not have to make any saves.
“Tonight's game really showed the talent that we have,” Adrian said. “Even though we didn't play our best and looked as though we were in second gear most of the night, we still won comfortably. I thought our midfield and forwards played really well tonight. We possessed the ball a lot and switched the point of attack well. We still have a few things we can improve on as the regular season comes to an end.”
The MHS JVs had a big game, winning 5-0. Ethan VanDorn and Kerrick Van Asselt scored two goals apiece, with Adrian Garcia scoring the other. Kaden Warren had two assists and Logan Schrag had one.
