McPherson High's soccer team defeated

HUTCHINSON — It wasn’t the way McPherson High’s soccer team wanted to enter the postseason, but Bullpup coach Chris Adrian said the team’s 1-0 loss to Hutchinson Thursday may benefit it in the long run.
Yannick Ford’s goal 17 minutes into the game — Hutchinson’s only shot on goal — provided the Salthawks with a 1-0 victory and snapped MHS’ six-game winning streak.
“As weird as it sounds, tonight may have been a good result for the team,” Adrian said. “Every season tends to have that one game where you play well and create lots of chances and still end up losing. Tonight was definitely that game for us. In an extremely windy environment, I felt we passed the ball in the midfield very well, but for some reason we just couldn’t find the back of the net for the first time this season.”
MHS had 10 shots in the game as it controlled the pace, but the Salthawks’ defense was up to the task.
“You have to give Hutch credit for taking their chance and then holding on for the win,” Adrian said. “They played some really tough defense. Hutchinson is on a great run right now.”
MHS finished the regular season 14-2 and will be home Tuesday for the first round of postseason play. Pairings will be announced this weekend.
“This team hates to lose and I have a feeling that it is only going to help motivate them for postseason play,” Adrian said. “Last time we lost a game, we responded by going through the toughest part of our schedule by winning six straight, scoring 33 goals and only allowing one goal against. This experience is going to help us down the road if we ever end up in a similar situation. I really like where this team is at right now and feel like they are prepared to make a good postseason run.”
MHS’ JVs ended their season with a 0-0 tie.
