  • A special season for the Elyria Christian School volleyball team came to an end Friday in Class 1A Div. II State Tournament pool play action Fort Hays State University’s Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Eagles opened up the tournament in the day’s first match, falling to tournament top-seed Baileyville B&B 2-0 (11-25, 19-25). Elyria then faced off with fourth-seeded Ingalls, again dropping a 2-0 (14-25, 18-25) decision. Elyria rounded out the afternoon with a 2-0 (13-25, 9-25) loss to fifth-seed Wheatland-Grinnell. Coach Tonya Robertson ends her inaugural season at the helm of the volleyball program with a 16-21 record. The Eagles will lose seniors Abby Fields, Cori Mines and Laura Keil for next year’s team, but return junior Audrey Unruh and sophomores Addison Fields, Katelyn Reimer, Anna Adamyk and Micah Redenbaugh, as well as freshman Jileen Cruz.
