  • Elyria Christian School’s cross country team finished their season Saturday with two runners competing in the Class 1A State Meet at the Wamego Country Club. Freshman Moriah Redenbaugh finished 26th out of 71 competitors, finishing the 4K course in 17:38, while senior Brando Cruz finished the boys 5K in 20:10.20, taking 63rd out of 95. "It wasn't his best race of the year, but it was his best finish,” coach Amy Trost said. “Unfortunately, he was hurting and saw the finish line as an end to the pain, so he gave all he had left to reach it." Trost said the pair were cheered on by their teammates. "I was very grateful for the other members of the team to be able to experience the atmosphere and size of the State Meet,” Trost said. “It can be somewhat intimidating.” This was the debut season for cross country at Elyria Christian School. “These kids did an amazing job learning, improving and challenging themselves,” Trost said. “The growth they achieved was remarkable.” Elyria returns five runners next year.
