  • Turnovers proved to be the deciding factor Thursday, as the Bethany Swede women’s basketball team fell to the College of Saint Mary 57-32. The Flames turned 20 Bethany turnovers into 23 points, while the Swedes only managed to convert 15 Saint Mary turnovers in to 8 points. Bethany only trailed 28-16 at the intermission, but they shot only 17.6 percent from the field in the second half, which allowed the Flames to outpace the Swedes on their way to the victory, as Saint Mary completed 34.3 percent in the second half. Bethany was led in scoring by Tanya Garner’s eight points, while Saint Mary’s Jessica Zaruba picked up a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. In total, the Swedes were out-rebounded 46-37. The Swedes fall to 1-4 on the season. They travel to face Fort Hays State University on Tuesday.
