  • McPherson College’s 26-game home winning streak was rudely ended Friday night by a hot-shooting Morningside College at the McPherson Sport Center. The two teams opened up with a back-and-forth contest, but the Mustangs went on a 10-0 at the 13:30 mark in the first half and never looked back, as they went into the locker room at the half shooting 56.25 percent from the field and were 7 of 13 from behind the three point line. A morning star run to open up the second half extended their lead over the Bulldogs to 30 plus, on their way to a 97-61 victory. McPherson shot better in the second half, 44 percent to 35.7 percent in the first half, but Morningside was shooting 53 percent for the game, including an astounding 50 percent from behind the arc. Only one Bulldog was in double digits, as forward Darius Hill scored 10 points and had six rebounds. The team’s leading scorer for the season, Samson Shivers, who was averaging 21 per game before tonight, went cold as he only hit 1-of-13 and five free throws for seven points; Shivers was 0-of-8 from deep. The bench for Mac put up nearly half the team’s points, scoring 30. While each team committed double-digit turnovers, Morningside stole 13 of McPherson’s 22 but the Bulldogs were only able to snatch five of the Mustang’s 16. McPherson travels to Hays this afternoon to face Fort Hays State University.
