Freda Romero Sepulveda, 95, of McPherson, passed away at 5:15 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8 while in the company of family members, at McPherson Care Center.
Freda was born in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, on Jan. 13, 1917, daughter of Vicenta (Falcon de) and Bralio Romero.
Freda attended and graduated from the Newton Schools, Newton.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church of Lyons, Kansas.
Freda was a homemaker and through the years worked in the salt mines during the war, as a house keeper, waitress and cook for Bill and Esther's Cafe which later became the Imperial Cafe, all of Lyons.
Freda became a United States Citizen on June 13, 1955 at Lyons.
Freda Romero was united in marriage to Manuel Cruz Sepulveda on March 22, 1932, at El Dorado. Manuel died on Feb. 3, 1998.
Surviving family members include her daughter, Gertrude Terrones, of El Dorado; her son, Richard Sepulveda, of Oceanside, Calif.; her brothers, Salidonio "Sali" Romero and Ventura Romero; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; many foster grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents; Her husband Manuel C. Sepulveda; two daughters, Alice Boyd and Mary Gomez; one sister, Maria "Mary" Romero; two brothers, Phillipe and Cecilio "Chilo" Romero; and two grandsons, Mario and Michael Terrones.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, with rosary to follow at 8:15 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, with Fr. Hien Nguyen officiating.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, the Lyons Municipal Cemetery Lyons .
