Betty Lorraine Gibson, 87, of McPherson, passed away at 5:20 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, while in the company of family members, at The Cedars House (805 N. Maxwell) in McPherson.
Betty Lorraine Gibson, 87, of McPherson, passed away at 5:20 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, while in the company of family members, at The Cedars House (805 N. Maxwell) in McPherson. Betty was born on April 23, 1925, in McPherson, the daughter of Mabel Mathilda (Johnson) and Charles Arthur Lindblade. Betty attended the North Union Country School, and graduated in 1943 from McPherson High School, McPherson. She attended McPherson College, McPherson, and Kansas University, Lawrence. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ McPherson, where she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the Couple’s Club, Women’s Fellowship and sang in the choir. Betty was a homemaker, also worked as a secretary in McPherson for a short time and was a farmer, always at Niles' side. Betty Lorraine Lindblade was united in marriage to Niles Bartle Gibson on Feb. 17, 1946, at the New Gottland Covenant Church, McPherson. Niles died on Nov. 15, 2000. She is survived by her children, Beverly Kavouras and her husband Larry, of Lindsborg, and Shanna Henry and her husband Tim, of Cheney; her brother Roger Lindblade and his wife Rosellen, of McPherson; her grandchildren, Nicholas Kavouras and his wife Michelle, Todd Kavouras and his wife Keri, Sarah Henry, and Augustus Henry; her great-grandchildren, Coleson Niles Kavouras, Jared Nicholas Kavouras, and Nolan Eric Kavouras; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Niles, her daughter Marcia Jeanne Gibson, and her brother Wendell Lindblade. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, McPherson, with Rev. Constance T. Lunn officiating. The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ, McPherson, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W.
