The accolades continue for the first-ever state volleyball champions in McPherson High history. The Kansas Volleyball Association has released its 2012 State All-Tournament teams and their All-State honors, with MHS well represented on both lists. The Class 4A State All Tournament team includes senior outside hitters Katelyn Loecker and Briana Pontious and junior middle blocker Paige Regnier. The Bullpups went 2-1 in pool play during the state tournament last month in Salina, falling only to Topeka-Hayden. The Bullpups would then turn around in the semifinals and steam roll Rose Hill to set up a rematch with Hayden in the championship match, which MHS won 2-1 to capture the state championship. In recognition of that feat, Loecker and Regnier were named to the KVA Class 4A All-State First Team, while Pontious was selected to the Second Team. Additionally, Loecker was selected as the Class 4A Player of the Year and MHS head coach Christy Doile was chosen as the 4A Coach of the Year. This is the second such honor for Doile, who was also named as the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division III Coach of the Year last week. Loecker, Pontious and Regnier were named to the AVCTL First Team, while Loecker also picked up MVP honors. While Doile will lose Loecker, Pontious and Tashley Snyder to graduation, she will return nine players from this year’s squad in 2013.
