  • Myers awarded Teacher of the Year

  • JoRae Myers, a teacher at Lincoln Elementary School, was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award during a reception Tuesday afternoon.
    Myers received her bachelor's degree from Bethany College. She began working in McPherson in 2003 and has been an elementary teacher at Lincoln and Roosevelt Elementary schools.
    "Thank you very much," she said after receiving a plaque and a check from the Education Foundation. "It's the whole district that works together, it's not just me or these four that are standing here. It's the whole district. I appreciate you honoring me, and I congratulate all of you too."
    Four other teachers also were in the running for the award.
    Linda Graber works at the Early Childhood Center and began working in McPherson in 1992. She received an associate's degree from Bethel College, a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University and an early childhood endorsement from McPherson College.
    Jeanne Zeitlow is a teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School and began working for McPherson in 1991. She has been an elementary teacher at Roosevelt and Eisenhower. She graduated from McPherson High School, Kansas State University and received her master's degree from Wichita State University.
    Cindy Presnall is a teacher at Roosevelt and began working for McPherson in 1994. She graduated from McPherson High School and McPherson College.
    Cathy Mauch is a special education teacher at Washington Elementary School and began working for McPherson in 2001. She received her associate's degree from Barton Community College and received her bachelor's degree at Bethany College.
    "What's really fun about today is we get an opportunity to honor these outstanding teachers," Superintendent Randy Watson said during the reception. "They would be the first to tell you they represent a group of outstanding teachers. We're extremely excited to be able to do that."
    Sponsors of the event were Citizens State Bank, Farmers State Bank, Home State Bank and Trust, People's Bank and Trust, and Sunflower Bank.
