  • Turnovers plagued the Lady Tigers Tuesday night and McPherson College took advantage on their way to an 86-49 thrashing of the Tigers at the Ed Pyle Sports Complex. Central (1-3) coughed up the ball 31 times during the game, which the Bulldogs converted into 33 points throughout the ball game. McPherson (1-3) opened up hot, racing out to a 10-2 run in the first period, and didn’t take its foot off the accelerator for most of the first half. The Bulldogs shot 48.6 percent from the field in the first half to Central’s 34.5 percent shooting and took a 47-25 lead into the locker room behind Ali Brewster’s 15 first-half points. The Tigers came out energetic and willing to fight to start the second half, but McPherson countered with a 10-3 run that seemed to kill the Central bench’s spirit. For McPherson, it was their first win of the season and head coach Cy Rolfe said it couldn’t have come at a better time. “Obviously, we’ve been playing some real good competition and some new faces,” Rolfe said. “We really needed some momentum going forward, because we’ve got some big games coming up this week and then conference will be here before you know it.” Brewster finished with 17 points and eight assists, while guard Brittany Pittas, McPherson’s leading scorer this season, also added 17 points. Central was led in scoring by Kadetra O’Brine with 13. Brooke Rhodes added 11 points for the Tigers. While Central turned the ball over 31 times, McPherson wasn’t exactly clean, as they coughed it up 21 times. “We’ve got to take better care of the ball,” Rolfe said. “We’ve got to make better decisions.” McPherson is next in action this Friday and Saturday, as the Bulldogs take part in the Bethel Classic in North Newton. Tip off Friday against William Penn University is at 6 p.m., while Saturday’s tilt against Haskell Indian Nations University tips at 2 p.m. Central will take the court Thursday in a road game against Rhema Bible College, with tip off set for 5:30 p.m. McPherson — Cramer 4 0-0 8; Eisenhour 2 3-4 8; Pittas 6 2-2 17; Brewster 6 2-2 17; Chambers 2 2-2 6; Short 2 0-1 5; Gillespie 1 0-2 2; Cooper 2 2-2 7; Savage 0 2-2 2; Brown 2 2-2 8; Harrold 1 0-0 2; Ast 1 0-0 2; Engelbert 1 0-0 2.
