A woman who was being arrested for a warrant allegedly battered three members of the Leavenworth Police Department, a police spokesman said.
The incident was reported at 10:43 a.m. Wednesday. Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said the 26-year-old woman who was being taken into custody made a claim that she had ingested a large amount of drugs. Officers took her to Cushing Memorial Hospital, which is where she allegedly became combative.
“She attempted to bite the officers and hospital staff,” Nicodemus said.
The woman allegedly spat in the face of one officer.
“She also kicked another officer in the midsection,” Nicodemus said.
She allegedly scratched a third officer, drawing blood.
Nicodemus said the officers didn’t require medical attention other than basic first aid.
The deputy chief said it appears the suspect had not ingested a large amount of drugs as she’d claimed, but it’s believed she may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The woman was cleared by hospital staff and taken to jail, Nicodemus said.
