The foundations have been laid for the new McPherson Museum building on East Kansas Avenue in McPherson.
A large crane has been brought in to begin erecting steel for the almost $4 million, 26,888-square-foot metal building.
Steel is supposed to be laid by the end of the month, said Carla Barber, museum executive director.
The final building will have a brick and stucco facade replicating prairie style architecure.
The project is on schedule. The new museum is planning for an open house by Labor Day of next year.
Donations are still need to pay for furnishing and completion of the exhibits that will be housed in the new museum.
Naming opportunities are still available.
Donors interested in making in-kind contributions can contact Barber.
Donations can be made online using a credit card by going to www.mcphersonmuseum.com. They also can be made by contacting Barber at 1130 E. Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67460 or calling 620-241-8464.
Barber asked that any artifact donations be held until after the museum moves to its new location.
Volunteers are needed to assist in the moving process. Those who wish to help can contact Barber at the old museum location for more information.
Those who wish to become members of the museum, now is a good time. Membership fees will go up after the new museum opens
