  • HESSTON — Myrtice Marie (Woodhead) Fuqua, 85 of Hesston, passed away peacefully at Showalter Villa in Hesston on Nov. 15, 2012. She was born on Jan. 31, 1927, to Matthew and Devena (Seybold) Woodhead on the homestead in McLouth, the third of six children. Myrtice graduated from McLouth High School. She married Jerry William Fuqua on Feb. 10, 1946, in the home of her parents in McLouth. He preceded her in death. Myrtice was a homemaker and farmwife. After moving from the farm, Myrtice was employed as clerk for the McLouth school district for more than 20 years. She loved music and served as pianist and organist and sang in the choir at the McLouth United Methodist Church. She also clerked for her brother-in-law's auctions for a number of years. Myrtice's greatest joy was her family, whom she lovingly served by cooking, baking, sewing and cheering and encouraging from the stands at more sporting events than can be counted. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with Jerry, taking special trips to Alaska and France, where they attended a reunion of fellow World War II veterans. After Jerry's death, Myrtice moved to Hesston in 1999 to be near family, where she continued her hobbies and became an active participant at the Hesston Wellness Center. She joined the Hesston United Methodist Church and was very involved in volunteer activities. She is survived by Larry and Becky Fuqua, Hesston, Bill and Nancy Fuqua, McPherson, Max and Sandra Fuqua, Inman and Don and Diane Fuqua, Newton.
