After opening up the 2012-2013 season with three straight losses, the McPherson Lady Bulldogs have taken two straight, the latest a 73-70 double overtime marathon against William Penn University Friday night at the Bethel Classic. Ali Brewster once again came up big for McPherson scoring 16 points against the Statesmen, including 10-of-13 from the line. The Bulldogs went into the locker room at half with a 30-27 lead at half time behind 41.7 percent shooting from the field and 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc. William Penn, however, battled back in the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 31-28 to force the extra period, which ended with the score still knotted up. McPherson utilized near-lights out free throw shooting in the extra periods, however, to pull away from the Statesmen in the second overtime. During second half of the game, including the two extra periods, the Bulldogs shot 15-of-19 from the foul line and finished the game at 77.8 percent. As a team, McPherson was 40.7 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from behind the arc, as the Bulldogs couldn’t seem to get the ball to fall through in the second half. Brittany Pittas once again was in double digits for McPherson, scoring 14 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the field. Madison Chambers clocked in a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. One other Bulldog hit double digits, as Cami Engelbert scored 10 points. Next up for McPherson is a rematch with Haskell Indian Nations University in day two of the Bethel Classic. The Bulldogs lost 77-66 to start the season on Oct. 30. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. this afternoon.
