  • A solid shooting performance by Baker University and the exact opposite for McPherson College gave the BU Wildcats the 65-48 victory on Saturday. The Bulldogs are now 4-3 this season after going 1-1 in the Baker Classic. It took about five minutes for the Bulldogs to get on the board in game two of the classic and while they were trying to get their first bucket, BU got up by 11 points. Less than four minutes later, a 15-1 run by McPherson gave Mac what turned out to be its largest lead of the game at 15-12. The score stayed close for the next 10 minutes, but a 12-2 run by the Wildcats gave Baker a 35-25 halftime advantage. The second half started with a BU bucket but a 7-0 run by McPherson brought them within five and forced a timeout by the Wildcats. After the break, nine-straight points were scored by Baker and from then on, they dictated the rest of the game, staying up by double-digits for the final 15 minutes. McPherson ended the game shooting 32.1 percent and went 6-of-10 from the stripe. BU shot a little worse in the second half than they did in the first but still made 40 percent of its shots, giving them a 25-of-53 night. McPherson committed fewer turnovers than Baker but had a lower assist-to-turnover ratio. Samson Shivers had a rough day from the field, only hitting 4-of-14 all of which were three balls giving him his team-leading 12 points. Junior transfer Dante Lee scored 11 on 3-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. McPherson travels to Columbia, Mo., for games Columbia College Classic on Friday and Saturday.
