Officials at Dillons Stores have announced renovation plans for its location at 1320 N. Main St. in McPherson.
Some of the renovation projects for the building, which was built in 1977, will include a new floral department, aesthetic and lighting upgrades, new refrigerator cases, a beverage fountain, customer service upgrades and upgrades to the produce department, a news release said.
The construction project will begin in the next week and is expected to be completed in early 2013.
Dillons spokeswoman Sheila Lowrie said Dillons hopes to keep disruption during construction to a minimum by doing much of the work at night.
Some areas will be blocked off during the construction, but products should still be available, she said.
Dillons has served the McPherson community since 1930, and is one of only two full-service grocery stores in the city.
This announcement marks one of the company's latest investments in central Kansas, along with a new Dillons Marketplace store to be constructed in Hutchinson. Lowrie said the renovated store will provide busy customers with a one-stop shopping experience.
“We are sure customers will be thrilled with the new look and offerings, following our renovation,” she said. “These enhancements will allow us to focus even more attention on providing what our customers want — freshness, friendly service, and value — all at their neighborhood Dillons.”
When complete, the newly remodeled Dillons will feature enhancements throughout the store. A few examples include:
• Fresh décor package with warm colors, upgraded department markers, and energy-efficient ambient lighting
• New floral department, featuring FTD services
• Expanded selections of health and beauty products, along with a special section for baby care
• New beverage center with fountain sodas and coffee
• Additional selections of garden-fresh produce, including organic varieties
• Updates to the customer service center with conveniences from Dillons' Money Shop with money services, Western Union, bill payments, and iWireless pre-paid phones
• New energy-efficient cases for the dairy, meat and seafood departments
“At Dillons, we know the holidays are a busy time of year for our customers,” Lowrie said. “The last thing anyone wants to deal with is stress at the grocery store when you are in a rush. That's why we will start with minimal changes prior to Christmas and keep most of the construction limited to overnight work. We are planning to begin with the installation of new energy-efficient cases in the meat and floral departments. We will also begin preparing the walls for fresh paint, but leave the remaining updates to the store until after the holidays.”
Along with the interior remodel, the store's exterior will receive upgrades with new paint and a new Dillons sign.
Dillons is not releasing the amount it is investing in the store renovation, but Lowrie said it was a significant investment. The bidding process is currently being completed, and a general contractor has yet to be announced.
