  • For one half, the McPherson College Bulldogs looked like world beaters, as they fought NAIA D-I No. 15 MidAmerica Nazarene to a 31-31 tie at the half, riding the confidence inspired by a three game win streak coming into Tuesday night’s matchup at the McPherson Sport Center. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs couldn’t keep up with the athleticism of the Pioneers for two full halves, falling 76-59. “They threw a big punch there to start the second half and we never really recovered,” McPherson coach Cy Rolfs said. The Bulldogs shot 37.9 percent from the field and guard Brittany Pittas put up 12 points in the first half of play, on her way to 22. What really helped McPherson keep it close was the three ball and foul shooting, as the Bulldogs took advantage of their opportunities, going 57.1 percent from behind the arc and 71.4 percent from the charity stripe. Unfortunately, a 6-0 run to start the second half and ice-cold shooting from the Bulldogs allowed the Pioneers to pull away. McPherson only managed 29.6 percent from the field in the second half and 33.9 for the game. “They were clustering up in the first half and we were able to shoot the gaps,” Rolfs said. “We kind of got away from that in the second half.” McPherson is off until Monday, where they host York College (Neb.).
