Jack Larson, 94 of Galva passed away at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, peacefully, at Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson.

Jack Larson, 94 of Galva passed away at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, peacefully, at Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson. Jack was born on Sept. 6, 1918, on his parents’ farm in rural Galva, a son of Mildred Marie (Johnson) and Oscar Alfred Henry Larson Sr. Jack attended the Grasshopper and North Union Country Schools and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson. Jack was a member of Galva Christian Church Galva. Jack honorably served in the U.S. Army during Word War II. Through the years, Jack worked for his dad on the family farm and raised cattle, worked for the Civil Service as a meat inspector before and after World War II in Kansas City and Chicago. He then moved back to the farm where he continued farming and raising cattle. Jack was a member of the Galva American Legion, Elks Lodge No. 502 B.P.O. E.; Farm Bureau; and was a charter member of the rural water district No. 4. Jack Larson was united in marriage to Doris Elene Kirlin on Nov. 21, 1942, at the home of Reverend McConnel in Independence, Mo. Jack was survived by his loving and devoted wife of more than 70 years, Doris Larson, of McPherson, until her death on Sunday; his sons, Stephen, Larson and wife Renie, of The Villages, Fla., Eric Larson and wife Debra, of Wichita, and Philip Larson and wife Rose, of Galva; his brother, Lewis Larson and wife Norma, of Pretty Prairie; his sisters, Ruth Taylor, of Wichita, and Marjorie Holloway and husband Charles, of Wichita; eight grandchildren, Scott Larson and wife Beth, Sarah Lumadue and husband Corey, James Larson and wife Amy, Rachel Nyp and husband Jon, Joseph Larson and wife Rachel, John Larson and wife Theresa, Katherine Bauerle and husband Christopher, and Kristine Larson; nine great-grandchildren, Nathan and Alice Larson, Colten and Cooper Lumadue, Alton and Olin Larson, Amelia and Grant Nyp, Ariana Larson; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred (Johnson) and Oscar A. H. Larson Sr. and step-mother, Peach M. DeLund-Crick Larson; his son, Henry A. Larson, brothers, John Olans, Robert “Bob” and Austin “Pete” Larson; a step-brother, Eugene Crick; sister Doris Engel. Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at Galva Christian Church, Galva, with Reverend Tripp Edwards officiating. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, with Reverend Tripp Edwards officiating and members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 providing military honors.
