  • Pastor says goodbye Dec. 1 marks my 14th anniversary as senior pastor at First Baptist Church in McPherson. I believe we have accomplished all that the Lord called us here to do. I have accepted a call to be the pastor of First Baptist Church in Bluffton, Ind. My last Sunday at FBC will be Dec. 16. My great honor is being able to leave this wonderful church family on a high note. It has been a privilege serving the Lord with all the followers of Jesus in this amazing community. We love McPherson. Our children consider this place to be their hometown. We are excited about the great things God has in store for you and for us. Keeping pressing on! — Thank you, Les Cantrell, senior pastor First Baptist Church Family thankful for community dinner We would like to thank all the loving hands for the fine Community Thanksgiving Dinner and a special Thanksgiving. For the McPherson community, we give thanks for the growing banquet, especially the decorated “take home” bags, some of which carried special messages from the children. — Elrene Stowe, McPherson; sister, Marianne Gawith, Salina; nephew, Craig McNichols, Salina Community dinner organizers thank community The McPherson Community Building was beautifully decorated on Thanksgiving, and the crowd came to observe the holiday and enjoy the free meal that was prepared and served by volunteers. About 300 volunteers gathered to help prepare, setup the facility and serve the meal that was enjoyed by more than 800 guests. Thank you to all who participated in various ways by giving of your time, helping finance the dinner and providing in-kind gifts to make it possible. When the plea went out that 50 more pies were needed, we received 70, which made the total 125, and we ran out of pies. This is the community spirit that is alive in McPherson and continues to reach all ages. In another month on Christmas Day, the same steering committee will organize another free meal and will be inviting you to participate again to help make it a success. Watch fliers, articles in the paper and listen to the radio for numbers to call. — Thanks to all, Community Thanksgiving Inc.
