  • Upon walking into the auditorium at McPherson College, students from the Bullpup Scholars Class from McPherson High School and Middle School were recently greeted by the lights, cameras and action that happen behind the scenes. High school students who have chosen movie production as their focus for the Bullpup Scholars Class partnered with MindFire Academy from Wichita to learn scene set up, filming techniques and editing. They learned how to film using professional grade equipment. Senior Brendon Blake utilized a $20,000 camera with such precision that he could see each individual pore on the instructor’s face. “The quality of the HD was so spectacular,” Blake said. “Sidney Hoffman and I were worshiping it in all its holy glory.” Cole Barr worked with the professional team to hone his skills as an aspiring director and cameraman. “I never knew about the Ghost meters,” Barr said. “They showed what was lit and what wasn’t. You could see where light reflected from.” The experience helped 26 students improve their skills and gave them insight to take back to the films they are currently creating for their showcase event on the morning of Dec. 15 at the McPherson Opera House.
