  • The Moundridge boys basketball team opened up the 2012-2013 season with a 58-48 win over Little River Friday night.
    Senior Daniel Ratzlaff had a phenomenal game for the Wildcats, going off for 24 points against the Redskins, including 8-of-11 shooting from the foul line. Little River's Chet Cordell was the only other scorer in double digits with 16.
    The Wildcats shot 12-of-23 as a team from the foul line, while Little River managed 15-of-23 at the charity stripe.
    Moundridge (1-0) next sees action Tuesday, as it begins play in it's own preseason tournament against Hillsboro. Little River (0-1) will be participating in the Goessel Bluebird Invitational next week, with play beginning Monday.
    Elyria Christian 42, Canton-Galva 34
    Canton-Galva (0-1) was game early, leading by two at the half, but a 13-5 third quarter doomed the debut of first-year Eagles coach Shane Duncan, as Canton-Galva fell to Elyria Christian (1-0) 42-34.
    Canton-Galva's A.J. Medley led all scorers with 14 points. The only other player in double digits Friday night was Elyria's Daniel Froese, who scored 11.
    Abilene 66, Smoky Valley 35
    The Vikings kept it close for one quarter of play, trailing only 13-10 at the start of the second period, but Abilene (1-0) proved to be too much to handle for Smoky Valley, falling 66-35.
    Abilene's Andy Wilson was on fire Friday night, leading all scorers with 21 points, including five from long-distance. Kelly Keil was the only other Cowboy in double digits with 12.
    For Smoky Valley (0-1), Andy Osner and Briton Hawk both had 12 points, while Holden Hendricks added 11.
