  • (Jesse) Raymond Alexander, 97, The Cedars, McPherson was promoted to glory on Dec. 1, 2012. He was born on June 20, 1915, on his parent's farm, rural Galva, to Jessie Eldena (Blair) Alexander and Andrew A. Alexander. Raymond attended the North Diamond country school and graduated from Galva High School, Galva. He married Della Ruth Marney on Aug. 18, 1940, in Mound Valley. He graduated from the Navy Diesel Mechanic School in Dearborn, Mich., while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Della and Raymond had two daughters: Karin (Robert) Roubideaux, Hutchinson and Judy (Glenn) Hageman, McPherson. Grandchildren are Brent (Michelle) Brigman, Mansfield, Texas; Brady Brigman, Hutchinson; Shana (Alex) Carbajal, Newton; Aaron Budge, Newton; Curtis (Grace) Cooper, Philippines. There are four step-grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Della, parents and four brothers, Clarence, Elton, Albert and Glen Alexander; grandson, Bradley Brigman and granddaughter Karla Brigman. Raymond was an independent oil owner/operator. He was a member of the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, rural Inman. Raymond and Della were very active in the Kansas Sunchasers, Y2K Campers and NCHA as well as past officers. They were also members of Hutchinson Water Sports Club. Raymond was a Mason, BPOE and member of the American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson. Memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church with lunch served immediately after. Burial will take place prior to the Memorial service at 11 a.m. at McPherson Cemetery with military honors presented by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, both of McPherson. Hoffnungsau Gift Fund or Reno County Hospice is suggested for memorials, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460.
