Day two of the Bluebird Classic went much smoother for the Elyria Christian boys basketball team.
A day after falling 67-19 to Little River to open up play in the preseason tournament, Elyria dropped Canton-Galva 39-22 to advance to the third place game on Saturday.
Ethan Price led the Eagles’ scoring effort with 12 points, followed by Daniel Froese with nine and Dawson Knackstedt with eight points. Elyria coach Ben Starburg was happy with his team’s effort, though he also welcomes the break between games.
“We played our third game in five days,” Starburg said. “We were a little leg weary.”
The Eagles’ opponent will be determined Friday evening, as Little River meets Canton-Galva and Goessel faces Burrton.
Inman 46, Lyons 44
MOUNDRIDGE — The Inman boys opened up play in the Moundridge Preseason Basketball Classic with a 46-44 win that came down to the final seconds of the ball game.
The Teutons kept Lyons at bay at the half, taking a 14-11 lead into the locker room at half, but Inman just couldn’t pull the trigger on the Lions to put them away in the second half, as the game was tied going into the final minute of play, only for Inman to hang on for the victory.
Josh Miller led all scorers with 14 points. He was also the only Teuton in double digits. Barkley Williams was the next closest with eight points, followed by Alex Ropp’s seven and Justin Friesen’s six.
Grady Kirkhart had 11 points for the Lions, while Ryan McClure added ten.
Both teams are back in action Thursday night as the Classic continues. Inman takes on Hillsboro at 5:30 p.m., while Lyons tangles with the host Moundridge Wildcats at 8:30 p.m.
