The Hillsboro girls basketball team has picked up right where they left off in 2012, having won both of their first two games now in the Moundridge Preseason Basketball Classic after a dominating 55-21 win over Inman Thursday night.
The Teutons were held to only four points in the first quarter and faced a 39-11 deficit at the half.
“Hillsboro made it difficult for us at both ends of the floor,” Inman coach Jeff Friesen said.
“Offensively, they are very skilled and we didn’t have any answers. Defensively, they contested everything.”
Hillsboro’s Tena Loewen led all scorers with 16 points, while teammate Addie Lackey was the only other player in double digits with 12. Kaitlynn Goalden was the leading Inman scorer with five points.
The Teutons will have another stern test tonight, as they face the host Moundridge Wildcats at 7 p.m. Hillsboro takes on Lyons at 4 p.m.
Lyons 50, Moundridge 48 OT
The late girls’ contest in the Moundridge Preseason Basketball Classic was a thriller, as Lyons pulled out the 50-48 overtime win over the host Wildcats Thursday.
The score was tight from the opening tip off, as the first quarter ended with an 11-11 tie. The battle continued into the half, where Moundridge had a 26-25 advantage, but Lyons would claim the third quarter 34-30. At the end of regulation, the score was 42-42.
The teams continued the fight into the extra period, where Moundridge’s Tiffany Huxman had an answer for every Lyons bucket, draining two threes in the overtime. It wasn’t enough, though, as Lyons scored one extra bucket to pull out the win.
Huxman led all scorers with 17 points, followed by Lyons’ Brenna McClure with 16 as the only other player in double digits.
Inman faces Moundridge tonight while Lyons clashes with Hillsboro.
