  • Richae Morrow will be the Artist-in-Residence Tuesday through Dec. 17 at the Red Barn Studio, Lindsborg.
Her education in art is a B.F.A., from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, R.I. She continued studies in painting at Bethany College with Mary Kay and Frank Shaw. In 2010 and 2012, there were painting workshops at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Snowmass Village, Colo. In 2012, she attended Indiana University Writer’s Workshop, Bloomington, Ind., and took a five-day workshop with cartoonist, author, artist Lynda Barry. In 2010 and 2012, she received Horizons Enrichments Grants. In 2011, Morrow received a Lana Jordan Developing Artists Grant to rent a studio in downtown Salina for six months to create larger-scale paintings on the Kansas landscapes. Her open studio hours and monthly receptions allowed the public to see the progression of her work.
During her residency, she will continue to return to the structure of a grid in her paintings.
She will continue work she began over the summer while at Anderson Ranch Arts Center.
“I am approaching the grid with a sense of order that somehow breaks into chaos,” Morrow said. “The break may be subtle or forceful, but I want to create grid imagery that contains tension and surprise. With color and line, I hope to move the viewer across and through the plane of the painting.”
