LINDSBORG – Smoky held Concordia to only nine points in the first quarter, on their way to a 57-50 win Friday night.
The Panthers managed to battle back from the first quarter deficit and trailed only 27-24 at the half, but Smoky Valley kept pouring on the pressure in the third quarter to take a 41-31 lead heading into the fourth, where Concordia fought back, but ran out of time, still down seven when the final buzzer sounded.
The Panthers’ Megan James led all scorers with 21 points, followed by teammate Tristen Leiszler’s 17.
Three Vikings were in double digits. Hannah McBride scored 14, Maddie Klotzbach added 12 and Clair Denk recorded 10.
MOUNDRIDGE — MacKenzie Suderman dropped 19 points and the Lady Wildcats rolled inter-county rival Inman 57-40 to wrap up the final day of the Moundridge Preseason Basketball Classic.
Moundridge jumped out to a 21-10 lead after the first quarter, extending it to 30-19 at the half.
“They scored the first six of the second half and we never seriously threatened them again,” Inman coach Jeff Friesen said. “I feel like offensively we played our best game of the week, but defensively we need to improve.”
Inman’s Kaitlynn Goalden scored 15 points for the Teutons and Naomi Williams added 10.
Also scoring double digits for the Wildcats was Tiffany Huxman with 11. Michelle Schrag added nine points for the winning effort.
MOUNDRIDGE — The Hillsboro girls dominated Lyons in the opening contest on the final day of the Moundridge Preseason Basketball Classic, holding the Lions to a single basket in the first eight minutes of play.
It never really improved for Lyons afterwards, as the Trojans had a 26-10 advantage at the half and kept pouring it on in the third and fourth quarters.
Danae Bina had 17 points for Hillsboro, the only play on either team to score in double digits Friday night.
