Type of fine art you’re involved in: Painting with acrylics and acrylic media.
How long have you been doing this? Since 2010.
What do you like about your art?: Because of my profession, my days are very much filled with both words and technology. When I'm painting, it's just me and the paint and the brushes and the canvas. Most of my art is abstract. I really enjoy exploring color and color combinations and the effect they have on people.
How did you get started?: I suppose one might say that I got started when I was attending South Junior High in Salina. My seventh- and eighth-grade art teacher, Miss Daisher, was very encouraging. I've had an interest in art and art history ever since, and I always wanted to try painting. But life seems to take it's own course. A few years ago, I decided to do it — so I started taking painting lessons from Rich Thibodeau of the ArtSpace Studio & Gallery in Marquette.
What are you working on now? I'm putting the finishing touches on "On the Square," a painting for my show in October.
Describe a memorable moment from your pursuit of art: I never really understood art or painting until I understood the many art movements throughout history — how and why they developed, what they represented, and what connected them. After a year of art history in college, it all clicked into place.
