Depleted ranks led the McPherson High varsity wrestlers to a 16th place finish at the Emporia Invitational Saturday.
The Pups were faced with eight open weights in the invite due to a combination of illness and injuries. Of the wrestlers that did compete, Travis Steenson went 4-1 at 182 pounds for a 3rd place finish. Todd Graber went 2-2 on the day at 145, while TJ Stites went 1-2 at 152.
Junction City won the invitational with 208 points, followed by Topeka Seaman, Emporia, Goddard and Pittsburg. McPherson had 31 points.
The JV also competed Saturday at the Rose Hill Invitational. Ross Regier went 2-1 at 195 pounds for a first place finish, while Levi Baldwin and Dalton Taylor both finished in second place in their weight classes. Baldwin went 2-1 at 182, while Taylor went 3-1 at 132. SueAnn Buster (106), Austin Range (160) and Ty Goss (220) went 1-3.
The Pups are back in action Thursday, as they host Mulvane and Buhler in separate duals beginning at 5 p.m.
