MC introduces, starting in January, “First Fridays: MC at The Cedars” — a free educational series open to all and including classes on poetry, drawing, science and many other topics.

“We’re so excited about these new classes and can’t wait to see everyone come,” said Katie Hill, director of alumni and college relations at McPherson College. “Our faculty has expertise in so many areas, and they want to share that with the community.”

Reservations are requested the Monday before each seminar to Marcia Walters at waltersm@mcpherson.edu or at 620-242-0434.

Attendees do not have to be MC alumni to come, and it is open to all ages — although the classes are geared to those 55 and older.

All classes start at 2 p.m. at The Cedars Conference Center.

The dates, topics and teachers of the classes are as follows:

Jan. 4 — “Writing the Poem You Live in” with Dr. Kim Stanley

Feb. 1 — “How a Psychologist Makes a Sandwich (and other mysteries of life)” with Dr. Bryan Midgley

March 1 — “Expressive Drawing” with Professor Wayne Conyers

April 5 — “Science: Fact, Fiction, and Futurology” with Dr. Jonathan Frye

May 3 — “The Pierless Bridge: Emily Dickinson's Poems of Faith and Doubt” with Dr. Bruce Clary

June 7 — “For Better or Worse: The Life Cycle of Marriage” with Dr. Laura Eells
