Central Christian College Softball Coach Chad Kerr announced the addition of Summer Williams to the 2012-2013 Lady Tiger Softball team.
Williams, who was recruited by Kerr last spring was unable to join the Tigers this fall, but she will join the Tigers for the spring semester.
Williams is a 5-foot-3 middle infielder from Shelbyville, Texas. She played high school ball for Shelbyville High School coach Mike Dewitz. Williams, who was a two sport standout in high school lettering all four years in both basketball and softball, will focus on just softball while at CCC.
Williams is a decorated high school softball player earning 2nd team All-District honors at 2nd base once, and twice was named to the All-District 1st Team.
"Summer is a very good ball player, but she is an even better person,” Dewitz said. “She will do great things with this opportunity."
Kerr said he believes Williams will be an immediate impact player for this year's squad.
"Summer is a middle infielder who will help strengthen our defense up the middle and should also provide some added speed in the lineup and hit for average,” Kerr said. “I think Summer will fit in well with the current group of Lady Tigers and have a positive impact this Spring both on the diamond and in the classroom. I look for great things from Summer and am excited to add another Texas player to our roster."
Williams is the daughter John and Pam Doggett and Gary Williams of Shelbyville, Texas. She graduated last May with a 3.4 cumulative GPA and plans on pursuing a degree in sports management while at CCC.
