During its monthly board meeting Tuesday, the McPherson Rotary Club board elected to remember and support the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting through a financial donation to a special fund established by the Newtown (Conn.) Rotary Club.
The Newtown Rotary Club fund is dedicated to the Sandy Hook Elementary School victims and their families. Donations will be used to assist victims with both short and long-term needs. The McPherson club made a donation as a way to honor and support the shooting victims and the entire Newtown community.
McPherson Rotary Club President Dale Sprague said the Connecticut club’s fund presented the perfect opportunity to “do something” and provide what help McPherson members could to “lighten the burden” the Newtown community is currently suffering. Sprague said he hope’s other Rotary and civil organizations throughout central and western Kansas will follow suit.
While the donation may be small, Sprague said he and other Rotary Club members take pride in knowing they have reached out in Rotary friendship and compassion to do their part in helping the Newtown families move past the Dec. 14 tragedy.
