  • Beginning its 101st year in 2013, the objective for the members of the Lindsborg Masonic Lodge No. 397 will be to conduct even more community service activities, Mike Terry of McPherson said.
Terry was installed as master of the lodge at the mid-December open installation. Family and others attended the installation and a dinner provided by the Lindsborg Eastern Star ladies at the nearby senior center.
“Yes, we’ve worked on community service projects in the past, such as helping in the Lindsborg Library catalog books for its new software program and providing the CHIPs program at Lindsborg, McPherson and Marquette grade school functions,” Terry said.
CHIPs is the CH Identification Program, where parents are given a package of materials and a CD for storage that includes photographs, fingerprints and a DNA swab. The materials are intended to aid in the case of a missing child.
“We’ve identified at least four additional possible community service projects for our Lodge in 2013,” Terry said. “Our members are looking forward to doing this work for the community.” The 2013 officers have their homes in six different towns, including Lindsborg, Marquette,
McPherson and Galva. Others who have moved out of the area continue to renew membership.
The Masons is the largest fraternal organization in Kansas, with 22,000 members nationally and internationally. Masonry is best known for its philanthropic efforts, including the Kansas Masonic Foundation Student Loan Program.
A Partnership of Life is an important program sponsored by Kansas Masons that raised the necessary millions to fund the new Kansas Masonic Cancer Research Institute at the KU Medical Center.
